Schools outreach has been a part of the work of EBS since its inception, with events and resources for teachers speaking to the third aspect of our mission: “Promote improved public understanding of Buddhism.” As scholars, we believe we have a responsibility to support teachers in delivering inspiring and accurate content about Buddhism in schools. Discovery Day for school pupils Each June we run a "Discovery Day" for pupils studying Buddhism as part of their Highers / Advanced Highers in RMPS. The event includes meeting local Buddhist practitioners, taster lectures from University staff, and activities relating to the Buddhism objects held at the National Museum of Scotland. This event does fill up so book early to avoid disappointment! The date for our 2025 event will be announced soon. Resources Our Teaching Buddhism blog provides a growing selection of resources for school teachers and other educators working to communicate Buddhism in new and interesting ways. The resources are created and/or curated by members of EBS and are free to use. Events are also advertised on the blog, and recordings of our teacher webinars are uploaded to the site. Teaching Buddhism blog We are also creating in-depth insights into the Buddhist artefacts displayed at the National Museum of Scotland, helping you and your students understand the history, significance, and stories behind each item. Join us in connecting with the profound legacy of Buddhist teachings through these historical pieces. A Guide to NMS Buddhist Collection Other Support We periodically run events for teachers to deepen understanding of Buddhism. Members of the EBS network are also happy to visit your school and give a talk about Buddhism to your pupils, or discuss any aspect of the curriculum that you are finding challenging.
