Theravada Buddhism Exhibition at the National Museum of Scotland

The National Museum of Scotland is now hosting an exhibition on Theravada Buddhism, with support from the Edinburgh Buddhist Studies network.

The National Museum of Scotland is hosting an insightful exhibition that explores the rich history and influence of the Theravāda Buddhist tradition, including its presence in Scotland today.

The exhibition takes place at Gallery 3, Level 1 of the National Museum of Scotland, running from September 16 2023 to June 9 2024. There is no admission fee or need for advance booking.

The exhibition showcases 40 objects from the South and Southeast Asian collection, including amulets, relics, statues, and votive offerings that span from the 2nd century AD to the present day.

Additionally, visitors will be able to see 19th-century spinning gongs from Myanmar and can immerse themselves by listening to the audio recordings of the gongs skillfully played by Ewan Millar, a percussion student at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
